ATHENS AND SOFIA
DECLARE "UNDESIRABLE" MACEDONIAN JOURNALISTS
MILS NEWS
Skopje, 14th September 2000
The editor of the journal `Macedonian sun', Slavko
Mangovski, recently has been refused entrance in Greece,
when he wanted to attend a folklore festival. Soon
afterwards, Greek officials declared him "undesirable". As
`Dnevnik' reports, Mangovski has a reputation for being
tenacious fighter for human rights of the Macedonian
minorities in the Balkans. This is the most likely reason
why he was not permitted to enter Greece. On occasion of
this incident, the Greek Helsinki Committee condemned the
Greek policy of not letting Macedonian and Turkish
journalists pass their border.
`Utrinski vesnik' reports that some Macedonian journalists
have been found "undesirable" by Bulgarian officials too.
They refused to extend the letter of credit belonging to
Viktor Cvetanovski, a journalist with `Utrinski vesnik',
thereby offering no arguments to substantiate their move.
`Utrinski vesnik' asked for explanation from Bulgarian
officials, but received none. They also requested of the
Macedonian officials to do something but no reply arrived
from their party too. `Utrinski vesnik' alleges that
Bulgaria made the move because Cvetanovski always told the
truth about the Macedonians in Bulgaria and objectively
presented the Bulgarian stance towards Macedonia and their
mutual relations.
