Human Rights Association Ankara Branch office was raided by the
security
forces on the order of Ankara State Security Court today at around
13.30.
Five persons were detained.
All detainees are the members of the Human Rights Association (HRA).
The
names of those who detained are Abdullah Soner, Gökçe Otlu, Ekrem
Erdin,
Saniye ..., Özgür....
During operation process and recent incidents throughout Turkey, many
Human
Rights Association branches were pressurised. Many members of the HRA
were
detained.
Police seized all documents related to prisons including formal
documents
of Ministry of Justice and hard discs of all PCs at the office.
Executive members of İstanbul branch office were detained three times
during last week, office was raided by police.
Konya branch office of the HRA was closed down for 45 days on 22
December
2000.
Antep branch office of the HRA was closed down for unlimited time of
period
on 7 December 2000.
Kayseri branch office was raided by police in the course of having
made a
press statement, chairmen of the Kayseri branch and the Trade Union of
Public Employees in Educational Services (Eğitim-Sen) were detained.
Van branch office of the HRA was closed down on 19 December 2000.
Malatya branch office of the HRA was closed down for an unlimited
period of
time in November 2000.
