The Serb genocide in Kosova should be stopped
Dramatic news are coming from Kosova. It is now two days that
considerable armed forces are assaulting the Albanian population there. The target of
these measures are in particular the villages of the Drenica area. According to some
preliminary sources, there are already 28 people killed, much more the injured, among them
even women and children.
This marks a further escalation of the oppressive policy of the
Belgrade authorities in Kosova, a policy which takes clearly the shape of a genocide at
the expense of the Albanian majority of this region. All reports show that Belgrade is
resorting to violence and armed repression instead of the initiatives taken by different
forums of the international community to find a peaceful solution to the Kosovo problem.
Milosevic is preparing a second Bosnia, which is likely to have most dangerous
consequences for peace in the Balkan region as a whole.
It is a moment of high responsibility, requiring the highest
engagement. All the Albanian, wherever they are, are following with great concern and pain
the fate of their brothers in Kosova. This moment wants, first of all, that all the
Albanian political forces leave behind their differences and form a united front against
Serb violence. We can express our firm belief that the Albanian Government will not
refrain from using all its links and means to urgently call the attention of the
international circles. Efforts should be deployed so that these circles react with the
resoluteness and rapidity imposed by this dramatic situation to put an end to the genocide
in Kosova.
The AHC calls on in particular the similar HR organizations abroad to
raise their protest, to sensitize the international community against the Serb nationalism
against this bloody fury which is sowing innocent victims among the peaceful population.
