THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADOPTION OF THE EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON
HUMAN RIGHTS

The Civil Society Resource Center (CSRC), an independent,
non-governmental and not-for-profit organization based in the Republic
of Macedonia, celebrates today the 50th anniversary of the adoption of
the European Convention on Human Rights, starting with distribution of
Convention related human rights material, in the frame of the ongoing
"Human Rights Caravan" Project.

The 658 judges in the Republic of Macedonia, from 27 district and 3
appeal courts, as well as from the Supreme and Constitutional courts,
will be given a copy of the Convention and a copy of the CSRC's "Guide
through the proceeding before the European Court of Human Rights". The
same material will be distributed to all prosecutors and members of
the Macedonian Judicial Council.

All these legal institutions will obtain two copies of another, more
specialized CSRC's publication "Admissibility of Complaints before the
European Court of Human Rights".

All 32 libraries in the country will also obtain the Convention and
the two mentioned books. The local authorities in all 124 districts in
the country will have their copies of the Convention and the "Guide
...".

More than 120 NGOs in the country will receive educational human
rights material including the Convention, the "Guide...", video-tapes,
brochures, posters, copies of the Universal Declaration for human
Rights ...which will enable them to initiate and conduct their own
human rights activities.

We already distributed five copies of the Convention in each of the 95
high schools throughout the country and celebrating activities are
also undertaken in our five youth human rights clubs in high schools
around the country.

The European Convention is ratified by the Republic of Macedonia and
represents part of the domestic legal system. It represents a valuable
element in the development of human rights protection practices and
the overall democratic processes in the Republic of Macedonia and with
this activity the CSRC gives its contribution for better understanding
and use of the Convention, as well as for raising the awareness on the
importance of the respect and protection of fundamental human rights.
